Alabama Football Indoor Tailgating Tablescape

I'm so excited that college football kicks off this weekend.  I'm a huge Alabama fan and you will find me parked in front the TV every Saturday cheering the Tide to victory.   The table is ready so I'll prepare some delicious snacks, put on my football jersey and enjoy the game.  ROLL TIDE!

Construction of the lighthouse tablescape

Construction of the lighthouse tablescape.

Lighthouses in Lighthouse Point

This past week I enjoyed a staycation in my beautiful coastal town in South Florida.   The weather in South Florida is brutally hot this time of year, but by the sea we have a nice steady breeze. Lighthouse Point is a small coastal town of 12,000 nestled between Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.   I took a short drive down to Pompano Beach to walk on the beach and search for shells.  While I was walking on the beach near the pier I could see our beautiful Lighthouse to the North.  I decided to drive up A1A for a closer look. It was very relaxing to sit by the inlet to the ocean and watch boats come and go and enjoy a nice cone of ice cream.    Sitting by the lighthouse  inspired me to pull out the lighthouse plates that I purchased a couple years ago and create a coastal tablescape.   I live by the Intracoastal Waterway just North of our lighthouse and see the light each night as the beacon circles the area as a guide for boats.

I had to incorporate my little flamingos in to the tablescape.   I also used little red and white fishing floats as place cards.  The shell napkin rings are ceramic and artisan crafted.  The pineapple urn candle holders were purchased from QVC a few years ago.  They are battery operated.  QVC no longer has them in stock, but Frontgate offers one very similar.  The tall lighthouse in the center was purchased this Summer at TJ Maxx.   The little palm trees are by Fontanini and go with my nativity collection at Christmas. They are perfect for coastal/seascape table designs.

The charger plate covers are made from fabric I found this Summer at Hobby Lobby.

The lighthouse wine charms are perfect for this table.

I found this Cape Hatteras look lighthouse serving platter at Goodwill and knew it would be perfect for a coastal table.
Here's a view from our beautiful lighthouse from the Pompano Beach pier.

A few photos from the Hillsboro Inlet park that overlooks Intracoastal Waterway to the ocean. The drawbridge separates Pompano Beach and the town of Hillsboro Beach.  This stretch of A1A is also known as Hillsboro Mile.   The beach front mansions are amazing.  There is a new 60,000 square foot home just North of the lighthouse called the Le Palais Royal and it is listed for $159 million.

Being a North Carolina girl I had to post a painting of the beautiful lighthouse from our coast.

Lilly Pulitzer End of Summer Tablescape

I could not let Summer end without displaying my Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection. I love everything Lilly and was so happy to score the Lilly Pulitzer for Target salad plates online on "Pink Sunday".   The Target website had it's first ever meltdown that night or I would have purchased many more items.   After about 2 hours sleep I crawled out of bed to head to my local Target and stand in line for the store opening.   When I arrived at 0630 AM I was 20th in line.   As I waited for the store to open the line grew to over 200 people and I was happy I made the choice to get there early.   I knew it would be a madhouse once they unlocked the doors at 0800 AM.   Thankfully the store manager provided a floor diagram with the location of the LFT items.  My main goal was the napkins to match the plates I had already purchased online.   When the door opened I ran to the home department along with several other Lilly lovers.  A lady started grabbing everything and throwing it in her cart.  I grabbed for a set of napkins and she grabbed at the same time.   She didn't want to share but, she finally gave in as the store only had two sets.   I'm sure everything she put in her cart was on eBay before noon.   I also picked up a few clothing items and the beautiful Nosie Posey clutch.    Over the next few weeks I checked all the Target stores in my area to pick up returned items and found everything but the glasses and coffee mugs.   I finally found the glasses on eBay at a very reasonable price, but no mugs yet.   They will come in time.  If you love Lilly Pulitzer I'm sure you will enjoy the table.

Flamingos and elephants are signature Lilly Pulitzer.  When I found the palm tree fabric with a light pink background I knew it would be perfect for the charger plate covers for this table.

Lilly for Target cocktail glasses are perfect for a nice margarita, but can be used for other chilled drinks.  I decided to use the LFT porcelain dessert plates as coasters under the cocktail glasses.

I love the Flamingo Salt & Pepper.   I found these at Cracker Barrel Country Store in May.

More flamingos and elephants.

I found the little Dept 56 flamingos last summer at Salem Creek in Winston-Salem.

The elephant salt and pepper shakers were found at World Market this season.

I fell in love with this little teapot when I spotted it at Home Goods a few months ago.  I knew it would be perfect for my Lilly Pulitzer table.

Building of the Rio Summer Olympic Games Tablescape

Rio Summer Olympic Games Tablescape

A short video showing the building of the Summer Olympic Games Tablescape

Olympic Summer Games Tablescape

Every two years I look forward to watching the Olympic Games.   I became a huge fan of the games during the 1984 Summer Games held in Los Angeles, CA and watch both Summer and Winter Games.  I decorated my first Olympic table four years ago when the Summer Games were held in London.   It was so much fun I carried it on to the 2014 Winter Games held in Sochi, Russia and this year in Rio, Brazil.

I selected the colors of the Brazil flag to design my table.  I love the regal blue, green and golden yellow.

A few months ago I decided to test my sewing skills and attempt to make fabric charger plate covers. I grew tired of using the same old plastic chargers over and over again so the fabric covers really jazz up my tables.Well, I must admit I'm addicted to making the covers now.  I searched online for Olympic themed fabric, but had no luck.  I was shopping in Joanne's Fabrics a couple months ago and found this close out fabric.  It works great with the Olympic theme.   I made the Olympic rings wine charms and napkin rings.   The O rings are hand sewn to fabric napkin rings I made to cover a plastic ring.    The Olympic rings in the center of the top plate are cut from my Cricut Cutter and I used a Zyron sticker maker to apply the adhesive.  The stickers are removable and store easily until the next games.

I displayed a couple Olympic Game pins that I have collected over the years.  The large ribbon covered Olympic rings were used on wreath I made for the Winter games two years ago.

The hutch next to my table is the perfect place to display a few up the Olympic items I have collected.  I found the blue 1972 Munich Games plate while searching for plates at Goodwill last year.  I knew it would be perfect for my Olympic collection.

A  closer look at the napkin rings, wine charms and the charger plate covers.

The centerpiece is made from a collection of Hallmark 1996 Atlanta Summer Games figurines and a Bruce Jenner figurine from the 1972 games.
