Snowflakes

The table this week was inspired by the lovely Cotswold style cottage used in the centerpiece.  The minute I found this my first thought was the move The Holiday starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.   The movie was set in L.A. and the beautiful town of Surrey in the English countryside.  The Surrey footage was actually filmed in England and not on a sound stage in LA.   It would be so nice to spend a holiday in the English country one year and enjoy the beautiful snow.   I have also added a few snowflake photos taken by my cousin Cindy that lives near Anderson Alaska.   They are amazing.

Snowflakes

I found this little cottage at Orchard Hardware before Christmas.

The fabric covering the charger plates was found at Jo-Ann Fabric.  The snowflake plates are the Gilded Noel pattern from the holiday 2011 collection at Target.

The snowflake napkins rings are from Hobby Lobby.

The photos below were made by my cousin Cindy Curry Wright. She and her family live near Anderson, Alaska.   The detail in each flake is amazing.

Inauguration Dinner Party

On January 20, 2017, we will celebrate a new day in America as Donald J. Trump and Michael R. Pence are sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States of America at the 58th Presidential Inauguration, once again establishing a government of, by and for the people, as we, the people.   My table this week celebrates the inauguration day and events.

I chose my fine china for the table. The pattern is Randolph by Noritake.  My crystal is by Fostoria.

I found these plates while home in North Carolina this Summer.  I used them on my RNC/DNC tablescape and at the election night party.   I purchased the White House ornament many years ago. The glitter elephant was purchased at Hobby Lobby this season.

The centerpiece is a cookie house I purchased at Trader Joe's months ago.  I used it on election day then stored it away for Inauguration Day.   The Presidents are made of metal and seem to be rather old.  I found them on E bay earlier this year.

The salt cellars are antique.  I purchased the salt cellar spoons while on a flight layover in Springfield, Mass. years ago.  They are from Peru.   There is a tiny Alpaca on top of the spoon and the scoop is a Peruvian coin.

Winter Blues

Winter has finally arrived here in South Florida.  The cool weather inspired me to make a large pot of homemade vegetable beef soup for dinner.   It was in the low 40's here early this morning which is a big change from the 70 & 80 degree temps we had yesterday.   Hopefully the cooler temps will stick around for a couple of months.  It's a refreshing change.   My friends and family in North Carolina had a nice covering of snow this weekend.   The Winter themed table coincides perfectly with the change of weather.  It was nice to sit down for dinner tonight and enjoy the sparkle and cobalt blue while having a hot bowl of soup.

The Set of three Illuminated Glistening Wax Trees by Valerie Parr Hill Collection from QVC are displayed on top of glass block.  I have a white lights inside the block to add sparkle.  The wax trees are currently available at a great clearance price. (Note: I added the Moravian stars to the top of the trees. They are candle holders and fit perfectly on the top.)

The snowflake napkin rings are from Hobby Lobby.

I found the cobalt antique compotes at a local show here in Pompano Beach a few years ago.   I love cobalt glassware and when I spotted these I knew they would be going home with me.

The stack starts with a silver card stock snowflake that I found at Party City.   The dinner and salad plates are Blue Bliss from Cracker Barrel. The compotes are antique glass.

I love the way the setting sun reflects on the blue glass.

A nice hot bowl of homemade soup was perfect for this cool Florida evening.
