Jackson Hole Christmas

Jackson Hole Wyoming is one of my favorite spots in the US.  I love it so much I plan to make my way West and live there one day. It's a beautiful area that somehow seems to stay the same over the years. My last visit there was 1985, but I have a feeling it's as beautiful as I remember.  I love it so much I find myself checking the Town Square live webcam a few times each day.   I love watching the locals move about in the snow and in the Summer too. A few pilot friends have messaged me from the town square on occasion so I could open the site so they could wave hello.   The cost of living in Jackson Hole is out of sight.   Housing is limited and very expensive.   I'm not sure I will be able to afford living in the town of Jackson, but hopefully some place just outside of town one day.

This weeks table was inspired by the log cabin hunting lodge Christmas house I found at Walmart.   I pick up the plates at Goodwill several month ago.   They work perfect with the Jackson Hole theme.

The Holiday Time Hunting Lodge is part of the Country Charm Collection from Walmart 2016.

The beautiful yellow dog and dog house is from Lemax this year.

Jackson Hole Christmas place setting.

The stack has two layers of fabric covered chargers, real wood chargers and the moose plates.  I found the plates at Goodwill and the stamp on the back shows the mfg as Mesa International, handcrafted in Hungary.  Each plate is signed by the person that painted the plate.

The hunting lodge at night.

I found these little woodland animals while thrifting in Boca Raton recently.   I believe Pier One has something similar in store.

I added a few of my authentic shotgun shells to the table.

I made the antler napkin rings a couple years ago.  I found the antler ornaments at Walmart and they are currently in stock this season.  I actually picked up four more this morning.  I remove the little bells that are attached and find other creative ways to use them in decorations.

I made the place cards and added mini ornaments from the Holiday Time ornaments at Walmart.  I used the antler ornaments from Walmart as the place card holder.

The wine charms are made from miniature ornaments from the My Little Christmas collection at Hobby Lobby.

I found this beautiful deer at the new Orchard Hardware store here in town.

I love the Hunting Lodge.

The base charger plate cover is made from faux cow fabric that I found at 1502 Fabrics in Winston-Salem while home this Summer.  The pattern is called Ferdinand Udder Madness Milk.  I was thinking I would use it on a western themed table when I purchased it, but it works great on the Jackson Hole table.

The fabric on the next charger plate layer was found at Walmart.  I find it amazing that Walmart offers such cute fabric.

Building the layers.

The magical Jackson Hole town square decorated at Christmas.

I saved this picture from one of the local webcams.

Another webcam shot of the town square.

  1. Beautiful tablescape representing Jackson Hole. I am going to check out Walmart for some material. You are so clever with your tablescapes. Love the antlers. The photos are lovely. I bet it is beautiful to see in person. Thank you Catherine for sharing your lovely tablescapes at DI&DI.

    1. Thank you Linda. I had plans to build an small log cabin for my table, but I snapped this one up the minute I saw it in the store. The antlers were still available in the ornament section in my store today. I saw a beautiful evening clutch the other day on a website with gold antlers on the top where it opens. I plan on finding a nice clutch and add the antlers. I didn't post it, but I have a cheese board with the antlers glued on it. The board is made from a long piece of wood grained ceramic floor tile. Those little antlers are very useful on lots of projects.

  4. Love those plates! Perfect for the table. The log cabin and dog house work really well. Even the dog is a pretty good stand-in for Cooper (except for the ears LOL).

  5. I visited Jackson Hole one year in February, and I love that your table captures the "feel" of that area so well. That cabin is perfect, and you have so many wonderful details, it makes an amazing tablescape.

  6. Catherine, this is amazing. A.MAZ.ING. Not only do I love your use of the elements assembled - the antlers as napkin rings & place cardholders - but also the fabric for layered plate stacks, the glass charms, your shotgun shells!....and who, in their right mind, would give up those plates handpainted from Hungary?! Lucky you to find!
I was lucky enough to visit Jackson Hole this past summer with my husband (he had been in the 80's also, skiing). On our trip we paraglided off the 10,000' summit and it was an experience I'll never forget - just awesome. Funny, we have been to New England, Canada and out west and, in all places, never saw a moose. "Here, moosey, moosey" we'd say as we drove and drove.
I thoroughly enjoyed your tablescape. Thanks for sharing all the great ideas. Happy holidays to you!

    1. Thank you Rita. Jackson is amazing! I was lucky enough to see a moose in the middle of the road as I was driving North out of Jackson to Yellowstone. We had to stop because he was just standing in the middle. I wish I could find the pictures. I love the elk, mule deer and antelope running wild in the Tetons. Happy holidays to you and your family Rita.

  7. What a great tablescape! One question, how do you light the hunting lodge when it is on the table?

    1. Thank you Darlene. Don't tell the fire department, but I put the electrical cord under the charger plate and put it under the table to a power strip. I never leave it unattended. It wouldn't work if someone was sitting at the spot behind the table, but it's always an place setting. I have a ceramic tree that my Mother made 30 plus years ago on this weeks table and hiding the cord the same way.

  8. What an amazing table. You have thought of all the details. What a clever and talented person you are. Your attention to detail is amazing. I couldn't pick a favorite thing. We live in the next state over from Jackson Hole and have gone there several times.

    1. Thank you Valerie! How lucky you are to live out West where it is so beautiful! I really hope to join you out that way one day. Living in Jackson would be my dream, but it's very, very expensive and limited housing options. I have friends in Eastern WY and some over in Utah. I could end up in either location one day and visit Jackson on occasion. Happy Holidays!
