O Christmas Tree

The centerpiece of my table this week is a ceramic Christmas tree made by Mom in the early 80's.  Mom was a fabulous artist and excellent craftswoman.  I joined her several times at the local ceramic studio and created several of my own pieces, but she was the expert.  She made several large table top ceramic trees for family members and this smaller one for me.   It's the perfect size for a tablescape and I enjoy decorating with it each year.

The woody station wagon plate is probably my favorite of the BHG collection.   It reminds me of the Ford Country Squire station wagon my Mom drove in the early 70's.

I love the Better Homes and Gardens limited edition Christmas plates in stock at Walmart this year.  I used a black plate under the BHG plates to tie in the black in the plaid tablecloth.

I've had these grapevine wreath napkin rings for years.

I found these cute dog nutcrackers at Petsmart a few years ago.

I enjoy having the Christmas houses in the dining area so I can enjoy them while having my meals.

The Christmas houses with the lights turned down.

The grapevine wreaths are attached to each dining chair.  I wrapped the wreaths with greenery and added a red velvet bow and cardinal.

  2. What a wonderful lit ceramic tree. It makes a perfect Christmas centerpiece and it has a bit of a retro-vintage feel, especially when you pair it up with the red truck plates and ornament. I absolutely love your Christmas village. I started using my daughter's village and I am hooked. I am now adding new buildings and people to the village. It is so charming to look at. The pet nutcrackers are unique. I haven't seen them as animals.

  4. I love this tablescape! The tree your mom made is a perfect centerpiece. I have some of the BHG plates from previous years, didn't get this year's but now I wish I had at least one of them. Oh, well...I may yet find one. I love them with plaid for a Christmas table. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    1. Thank you Joy! I debated on buying the BHG plates the first time I saw them in the store, but I feel in love with the woody plate. I started out with four then picked up two more last week for back up. If I ever move back to North Carolina I will need service for six. Have a Merry Christmas!

  5. Pretty and festive tablescape - how do you hide the electrical cord for the tree? I have my mothers from the 60's, but never thought to use it as a centerpiece - great idea! Merry Christmas!

    1. Thank you Patti. I run the cord under the place setting at the back. This seat is never used so the cord is hidden. I always make sure the tree is never left unattended. This tree is rather old and that bulb tends to get pretty hot. Have a Merry Christmas Patti!

  6. Catherine, this table is so perfect for Christmas. Bright, merry and so traditional. Love your centerpiece. It does bring back memories. I love those BH&G plates. I looked all over for the cute car ones, but no luck. The chairs look lovely all dressed so up. Love your Christmas houses, they make such a fun addition. Beautifully done. Merry Christmas.
