Call to Post

This Saturday will mark the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.   The Derby is on my "bucket list" to do one day.   I always enjoy creating a derby tablescape.  It's fun to sit at the table, have snack and sip a spirit or two while watching the race.

Derby table centerpiece.

Kentucky Derby tablescape.

The Breyer horse in the centerpiece was purchased at Tuesday Morning a few years ago.  I placed inside a round preserved boxwood wreath and added a few silk red roses inside.

I made the Derby napkin rings a couple years ago out of a old leather belt and snaffle bits. .   The ribbon roses on the mini straw hats were made by Mom many years ago.

I need to update the placecards next year.

I painted the racing silks on white tiles using Sharpies.

I made the sign a few years ago to use on my Derby wreath.

I painted the plates on the server last year using Sharpies.   The horses on top of the hay bales are old trophy toppers that a friend gave me years ago.

I purchased the riding helmet and crop on eBay.

The plate stack starts with fabric charger plates covers.  The fabric is from Joann's Fabric.  The dinner plate is from HomeGoods.  I've had the white and black china salad plate for a few years.  I topped with a pony horseshoe.

This is a wreath I made a few years ago.  I live closer by the ocean now and it's very windy and I cannot keep anything on the door.

I made this Derby hat for the 2015 race.

My dog Cooper even enjoys Derby day.

This is the table from 2015.

This was my first Derby table in 2014.

  1. I love the Rose-patterned fabric covering the chargers, and of course, all the details. And your hat is amazing! I hope you'll enjoy watching the race at this beautifully appointed table.

    1. Thank you Joy! I wish I would have purchased more of the Derby fabric to use later if needed. I couldn't find it online tonight. I loved making the hat and hated deconstructing it post race. I wear the hat unadorned now to protect my fair skin here in the Florida sun.
