Tropical Palms

Where did the Summer go?  It's hard to believe Labor Day weekend is upon us.   I live in South Florida so we have several more weeks of Summer temperatures so I will have a few more Summer themed tables.   I'm ready to bring out the Fall dishes and decor, but it's just too darn hot.  The National Hurricane Center posted a warning about a "couple areas of concern" brewing in the tropics.  I really hope they fizzle out before they make landfall.  I'm not ready for a replay of last September.    I used a Tommy Bahama tropical palm pattern on the table this week.  I love the purple and turquoise color combination.

I used a hurricane from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection in the center of the table.  I inserted a real look flameless candle and added a few fresh cut palm leaves from my patio.

The hurricane is surrounded by a lavender wreath purchased from Southern With Grace.  SWG is located in Cartersville, GA.  Most of their items are farmhouse chic, but they often carry items that will work in any decor.   I have purchased several pretties since discovering their Tuesday night live chats on their VIP Facebook page.   Their shipping is very cheap and the products get to you quickly.  They also have a shopping app.

The Tommy Bahama palm tablecloth is mostly green, but has a bit of turquoise blue mixed in the leaves.  I used turquoise napkins with  woven rattan napkin rings

I love the amethyst wine goblets.  I've had these for a few years and I believe they are from Old Time Pottery.

The Reed & Barton bamboo flatware pattern was a gift from my Mom when I was a teenager.   I kept this in my hope chest until I married in the early 80's.   Did anyone else have a "hope chest"?  I doubt young ladies have those these days.

The Tommy Bahama Palm Leaf tablecloth was purchased at HomeGoods a couple seasons ago.

The plate stack starts with a square woven placemat.  The turquoise charger plate is Tuesday Morning this season and made by Elite Home.  The dinner plate is by Artisan de Luxe Home and may still be in stock at HomeGoods.   The salad plates are Tommy Bahama and were purchased at HomeGoods this season.   They also carried dinner plates in this pattern.

I used a round lantern with ivy, faux red coral and a tropical candle in the middle of the server.  I placed two pineapple hurricanes on the side of the lantern.   My hurricanes were purchased many years ago, but Frontgate has them in stock this season.

I enjoy this table at night.

When Life Gives You Lemons....

When life gives you lemons, you make a tablescape.   I've taken a few weeks off from my table designing, but I'm back.  At the end of June I faced a job layoff, but luckily I found a new job in the same field in three days.   I must say the layoff wasn't a shock as I was aware my company was having some major financial struggles.  They say "when one door closes, another one opens" and I am fortunate to have a friend that was in need of someone with experience in my field.   My new company is a year old and growing which is very exciting.   Even though I have been doing the same type of work for over 12 years now there is still so many new things to learn.  My poor brain is exhausted at the end of each day, but my creativity is quickly returning full speed.  I guess you could say life dealt me a few lemons, but I made lemonade and kept going.

The lemon cone topiary is from the Valerie Parr Hill collection.  I used three olive branches to make a ring to fit around the base of the topiary.   The olive branches are from Southern With Grace.

The mini topiary's in small clay pots are from Southern With Grace.  The have a live Facebook sale each Tuesday night at 7PM Eastern time.   They offer great price and shipping rates.  They specialize in mostly farm house chic items, but also have a variety of eclectic items that can be used with any decor.

The lemon napkin rings are from Sur la Table last Summer.

I used a country French feel tablecloth that I've had for many years.

The lemon-sunflower dishes normally hang on the wall in the dining area.  I love the brilliant cobalt blue and yellow combination.

The server.

I filled a chicken wire cloche with lemons to use on the bookcase beside the server.  The harlequin design pot with greenery is from Tuesday Morning.

The circular lantern is from Lisa Robertson.  She offered these in white a couple weeks ago.   I'm not sure she will stock the black again or not this season.  The glass on each side is also removable.  Kirkland's offered the black and white on their website awhile back, but I'm not sure if they are available now.  The lemons in assorted sizes and the faux ivy candle rings are also from Lisa Robertson.  Lisa has a Facebook live chat each Sunday night at 7PM Eastern showing the items coming up on her website each week.  She also offers fabulous jewelry pieces, clothing and other accessories.

The galvanized lantern and boxwood wreath are from Southern With Grace.

The cobalt blue vases are antique and a gift from my Mom.

I think it's time for a ice cold glass of lemonade.
