Yellow Bells and Daffodils

As we start the second week of Spring the yellow bell bushes and daffodils are blooming in the Southern states.   The closest I will get to daffodils are the ones that I picked up at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods this weekend.   It's impossible to find Forsythia branches, yellow bells to Southern girls here in the land of palm trees.  I used a few artificial branches along with some faux pussy willows branches in the centerpiece this week.

Each time is see yellow bell branches I think of my Grandmother.  She had several Forsythia bushes on her farm.

I found the silk daffodil napkin rings at a local senior handmade craft store in my hometown in North Carolina a few years ago.

The Cambridge Silversmiths Bamboo-Style Flatware is a new purchase.  I have been eyeing it at Horchow for a while now and it was finally on sale last week.

Overhead view.

The plate stack starts with a green and white buffalo check tablecloth from HomeGoods.   The scalloped edge white charger plates are from Michael's.  The yellow and white dinner plate is by Shabby Chic and current in store at HomeGoods.   The salad plate is by Better Homes and Gardens.

I used a white narrow trough filled with greenery all purchased at Southern With Grace in Cartersville, GA on the server.    SWG has nice farmhouse style decor and very reasonable prices.  Each  Tuesday night at 7PM Eastern they do a live Facebook sale showing new items.  It's easy to purchase and their shipping is cheap and arrives rather quickly.

I picked up two delft bowls filled with mini daffodils at Whole Foods this past weekend.  The field cut daffodils from Trader Joe's didn't last long.

Spring Tulips

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and I'm sure most of you are looking forward to Spring blooms and warmer weather.    We are already experiencing Summer temperatures  here in So. Florida and it feels like we skipped  right past Spring.  I am currently in love with pink and green everything so I really enjoyed styling the Spring tablescape.  The color inspiration started with the silk real touch pink tulips and a heavy leaded glass green and pink vase.

The silk real touch tulips are from Lisa Robertson

The beaded butterfly clips added to the boxwood wreath are from Valerie Parr Hill

I discovered this beautiful leaded glass vase at a local indoor community garage sale this past weekend for $2.00.  I had already selected another vase for the tulips, but I knew this one would be perfect for this table.

The fuchsia buffalo check dinner napkins are new this season from Valerie Parr Hill.   I love them so much I may need to order a few other colorways.   I used beaded napkin rings from Valerie.

I used grassy green Dollar Tree wine glasses with pink goblets.

I discovered these beautiful  pink goblets last weekend at a thrift store in Boca.   One had a sticker that showed they were made in West Germany.

Overhead view of the table.

The floral tablecloth was found at TJ Maxx a couple weeks ago.

The plate stack stars with a pink charger plate from Michael's this season.  The plates are from HomeGoods.  The green salad plate is by Kate Spade.  The floral plate is Issac Mizrahi.  I topped it a pink floral bowl also in store at HomeGoods now.

The pink hydrangea peony and tulip floral garland and candle rings are by Valerie Parr Hill Spring collection.

I made the stained glass tulip many years ago for my Grandmother.

The pink illuminated faceted glass hurricanes are from Valerie Parr Hill.  The pedestals are also part of Valerie's collection at QVC

Evening view of the table and server.  I used a battery operated light spot under the glass vase.

Let the Good Times Roll!

Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday and the last night of eating fabulously rich foods and drinking hurricanes  before the Lenten fasting begins.    I actually had a bowl of delicious gumbo today and will have the remaining tomorrow evening.   I normally buy a King Cake, but I'm trying my best to not eat sugar so I passed on the cake this year.  I love using the royal and regal colors of carnival on the table each year.  It's bright during the day, but also very colorful at night.

I used a porcelain jester and a lamp post in the centerpiece. The lamp post is from the Dickens Christmas collection by Valerie Parr Hill.   I removed the Christmas wreath and added the Bourbon Street sign.

I found the musical instrument garland in my Mom's Christmas ornaments a few years ago.   I knew the minute I found it I would use it on my Mardi Gras tablescapes.

I used Mardi Gras themed beads found at Party City to make napkin rings.

I added the musical instrument Christmas ornaments with each napkin.

The kelly green and purple glassware works great on this table.

Overhead view of the table.

The plate stack.  The top plate is actually a paper.

The server.  All of the hurricanes and lamps are from the Valerie Parr Hill collection.   I placed a crown on top of the tall hurricane.

The smaller hurricanes are normally clear.  I place a piece of green tissue inside each hurricane then added in the micro lights.

Evening view of the server.  It's magical.

Full disclosure, I did not make the gumbo.   Publix has it in their frozen seafood section and it's just easier.  I added in the two shrimp.  I love to make gumbo, but it's just me and it takes forever to eat a pot.
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
