2016 Table Retrospective Part One

It's hard to believe another year has come and gone.   I hear the older you get the fast they fly by and I'm beginning to believe that is true.   I've had lots of fun designing and styling my tablescapes this year.   While putting this retrospective together I realized I missed Mardi Gras, Mother's Day and a couple sports and team tables that I normally create annually.   Some holidays were right on top of each other.  One of these days I will have two dining areas and I will have plenty of fun!  Part one is January through June 2016.

Carolina Cardinal Christmas

The table this week celebrates my home state bird the northern cardinal.   Growing up in North Carolina it was a common bird to see year round.   It was my Mother's favorite bird and she loved receiving gifts with a cardinal on it.  I think of my late Mother each time I see a cardinal.  We do have them in South Florida, but it's rare to spot one in my area.   Each time one flutters by I know she is thinking of me.

The white trees in the centerpiece are from the Valerie Parr Hill QVC Collection  The are illuminated glistening wax and are battery operated with a 5 hour timer.    They are new this season and are currently on sale at QVC. They would make a great display for a Winterscape.  I will be using them again in a few weeks on my snowflake/Winter table.

I made the place cards using card stock and these cute little cardinal stickers.   I purchased the stickers last year after Christmas.

Birds eye view of the table.

The cardinal napkin rings are by Lenox and were purchased a few years ago at Tuesday Morning.   The salt & pepper was purchased a few years ago at Walmart.

The cardinal glasses are from Stein Mart many years ago. My Mother always had a family Christmas morning breakfast so I purchased eight for her and four for me.   They are hand painted so I'm very careful when I use them each season.   I made the wine charms years ago.

I found this fabric for the charger plate covers while on vacation in North Carolina this Summer.   I cannot remember the source, but it was on clearance and the yard was only $1.00.

The stack starts with the cardinal fabric charger plate cover, my Christmas china dinner plate and Lenox Winter Greetings salad plates.  My Mother gave me the Christmas china service for eight 20 plus years ago when I had a rather large family.  I purchased the Lenox plates from QVC a few years ago.

I had time for a little fast craft project.  I found this idea on Pinterest.
I'm sure we all have small broken pieces from garland, trees etc laying around or the real thing and wine corks.   Who doesn't have wine corks?  I always keep mine for projects.

Use a knife to cut the cork in to twos.

I used a corkscrew to screw in a new hole on the end where I cut. I wanted to use the flat end of the cork so the little tree would stand.

Once you have the hole made insert a small 1 inch piece of the garland or real greenery.

The finished trees work nice in my centerpiece and I'm sure I will find more uses for them throughout the Winter season.
Cooper and I took a drive to Petco yesterday for his annual photo with Santa Paws.   On the ride home we stopped by a neighbours home and made a few pictures with their Christmas display.

Cooper with Santa Paws.  I'm not sure if he was praying or taking a nap.

Heading off to see Santa Paws in the hot 85 degree weather here in South Florida.

Merry Christmas!

O Christmas Tree

The centerpiece of my table this week is a ceramic Christmas tree made by Mom in the early 80's.  Mom was a fabulous artist and excellent craftswoman.  I joined her several times at the local ceramic studio and created several of my own pieces, but she was the expert.  She made several large table top ceramic trees for family members and this smaller one for me.   It's the perfect size for a tablescape and I enjoy decorating with it each year.

The woody station wagon plate is probably my favorite of the BHG collection.   It reminds me of the Ford Country Squire station wagon my Mom drove in the early 70's.

I love the Better Homes and Gardens limited edition Christmas plates in stock at Walmart this year.  I used a black plate under the BHG plates to tie in the black in the plaid tablecloth.

I've had these grapevine wreath napkin rings for years.

I found these cute dog nutcrackers at Petsmart a few years ago.

I enjoy having the Christmas houses in the dining area so I can enjoy them while having my meals.

The Christmas houses with the lights turned down.

The grapevine wreaths are attached to each dining chair.  I wrapped the wreaths with greenery and added a red velvet bow and cardinal.
