Winter Woodlands

While most of the country is freezing and covered with snow and ice we are waiting on Winter to arrive in South Florida.  We've had a few cold nights over the last few weeks, but so far I haven't needed to turn the heat on.   I must admit, I did use it in my car on the way to the office a couple weeks ago.   A friend near Dayton Ohio posted fabulous pictures of snow this past weekend that included beautiful cardinals playing in the snow.   I planned the table this week around the deer plates found at Wally World during the holiday.  They are Christmas plates, but I feel they also work on the Winter table.

Cardinals on the snow frosted twig tree branches in the center of the table.

The place setting.

I purchased these little feathered beauties at AC Moore several years ago.

The illuminated glitter twig trees are part of the Valerie Parr Hill collection.

I used Valerie's illuminated mercury glass cardinal icons at the base of the twig trees.  I placed a small white boa under the the cardinals to simulate snow.

The cardinal coasters are from HomeGoods.

The Mossy Oak Deer Frost flatware is available at Amazon.

I made the wood slice napkin rings a couple years ago.  You can see the instructions here

The plate stack starts with the Ralph Lauren RL Winter Night tablecloth with berries and snowflakes on a blue background. I found the tablecloth at HomeGoods.  I used a wooden plank look charger from Michael's.   The dinner plates are from Pier1 years ago.   The top plate is part of the Better Homes & Gardens Heritage Collection.

Up close shot of the tablecloth.  The pretty blue doesn't show so well in pictures.

I hope this collection is available next season so I can pick up the matching dinner plates.

Everything on the server is from the Valerie Parr Hill Collection at QVC.

This table is so pretty at night.   The twig trees have the right amount of light and glitter to give you that glistening snow feel.

  2. I love those plates! Better Homes & Gardens has come out with a new one in the series each Christmas season for several years now. I have quite a few but missed this year's. Yours work equally well for winter as for Christmas, and your table is lovely. That tablecloth! And all the cardinals - in fact, all the details you do so well, are present in this table.

    1. Thank you so much Joy. I look forward to seeing what they offer this coming season. I only wish I would have picked up the matching dinner plates, but hopefully they will return in 2019. :)

  3. The cardinals and glittery 'snow' are marvelous. I particularly like the unusual tablecloth you used. I think those of us who live in the South deserve at least one snowfall per winter!

    1. Thank you Sandra. The minute I spotted this tablecloth I knew it would be perfect for a Winter tablescape. I do not miss driving in it, but I do miss the beauty and watching the birds play in a beautiful blanket of fresh snow.

  5. Very lovely Catherine, you certainly have created a wonderful winter scene in your Florida home! I love the red cardinal centerpiece, when I catch a glimpse of one in my yard I consider it an omen of good luck, they are so beautiful! Be grateful you have warm weather, I have been freezing for months {in Alabama!!}

    1. Thank you Jenna. I think of my Mom each time I see a cardinal. She loved them so much. It's very rare to see one here by the Intracoastal. When I lived a few blocks inward off the water I would occasionally spot one. We are finally going to have some cooler temps here in So. Florida tonight. It's going to be in the low 40's tomorrow. I may have to kick the heat on. Stay warm in Alabama!

  6. This is a lovely tablescape Catherine, the cardinals are my favorite bird and we have a pair of them in my Secret Garden. You have captured them perfectly...it is just like I am outside with them! You know how much I love Valerie ParrHill and you and I have many of the same pieces. Beautiful table and sideboard.

    1. Thank you so much Kari. Do you see the cardinals often over on your coast? I wish we had more over this way. This weeks table was pretty much a Valerie Parr Hill showroom. She has new shows starting on the 23rd. I'm looking forward to seeing what is new for Spring/Easter.

    1. Thank you Darlene. I have the "Woody" plates and the other patterns that match this collection. I'm happy I found these new deer plates this season. I ran out of weeks to use them at Christmas and thought they would be perfect for a Winter table. I'm looking forward to seeing the BHG 2019 collection.
